Port of Melbourne
+ Add to ItineraryDescription
Port of Melbourne is Australia’s largest capital city container and general cargo port, handling more than one-third of the nation’s container trade. We operate as a landlord port and are responsible for planning, operating and maintaining port land and shipping channels. We ensure the port has the capacity and capability needed to handle cargo, and that facilities and infrastructure are developed and maintained as needed.
Located in the heart of Melbourne among growing communities, vital industrial precincts and transport corridors, we are the cornerstone of Victoria’s port freight transport network, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Melbourne has continued to develop and evolve closely around the port, supporting the prosperity of thousands of businesses and the daily lives of many people across south-eastern Australia.
What's On
Port open day boat tours are fun, family-friendly and the best way to see Australia’s busiest port, right on the city’s doorstep. All tours are round-trips, leaving from and returning to Harbour Lights Landing in Docklands. The tour will run for approximately 90 minutes with commentary and will take you up close to our main terminals Appleton Dock, Victoria Dock, Swanson Dock (swing basin only due to wharf works) and Webb Dock East and West.
Children's Activities
Kids love looking at the cranes and the tug boats, so definitely bring them along! The tour boat can accommodate prams and pushers too. We’ll have limited activities for the kids on board (parents or carers must supervise).
Clockwise from top left: 1. View of the West Gate Bridge from Port of Melbourne's Boat Tour 2. Visitors queuing up to board the Kingfisher II vessel 3. A container vessel at berth at Port of Melbourne 4. Cranes at Port of Melbourne

Accessibility
Partially wheelchair accessible
Our doorways are 70 cm wide, most wheelchairs are able to fit through. Powered wheelchairs are usually too big to get on board, and there is a small step down on boarding and disembarkation. For some motorised wheelchairs, our back deck is too small to make a turn to get inside. During warm and sunny days, passengers can stay on the outer deck; however, on cool, windy, and rainy days, the outdoor experience while sailing may not be that great. The vessel is not equipped with a disabled washroom.
