Rae Street Studio

+ Add to Itinerary

Presented by: Mihaly Slocombe Architects

Description

Rae Street studio, recently revamped in 2025, showcases a perfect blend of historical charm and modern design. Originally built in 1910, this solid brick building has a rich history, housing various factories including Edlyn’s Cordial in the 1930s. Somewhere around the late '80s, the building received its distinctive salmon pink render, which remains a standout feature today. Now home to a diverse mix of businesses, it hosts everything from healthcare providers to financial advisers and creatives.

During renovations, low ceiling tiles were removed to reveal the original roof's angled underside and exposed timber beams. The original brick pier and rough concrete floors were preserved to maintain character, while new finishes were introduced, like plywood desks and porcelain tile benchtops, and warm tones of cream, beige, rust, and smokey pink were used complement the exterior's coral hue.

At only 162 square metres, the space comfortably accommodates 20 workers, and is designed for flexibility. From quiet phone nooks to expansive presentation areas and collaborative zones, the studio encourages creativity and productivity. Now a co-working hub shared by  IT teams, consultants and designers including Mihaly Slocombe Architects, the space provides a dynamic and inspiring environment. Visitors can explore how this historic building has been transformed into a modern, versatile workspace.
