West Gate Tunnel Project Veloway: behind-the-barriers experience
+ Add to ItineraryDescription
The West Gate Tunnel Project is constructing a 2.5 kilometre-long veloway, providing a fully separated cycling route. The veloway will eliminate the need to cross six intersections, making trips safer and quicker for riders. Suspended above Footscray Road, the veloway stretches from Shepherd Bridge in Footscray to the city side of Moonee Ponds Creek. Come get a behind-the-scenes look as we continue preparing for its opening later this year. This is a rare opportunity to walk the veloway before it opens exclusively to cyclists.
What's On
Attendees will arrive at the West Gate Tunnel Project Information Centre in Yarraville for a short presentation by a senior project engineer on the veloway’s design and construction.
Attendees will then board a bus to travel the full veloway alignment along Footscray Road. The bus will stop at Maribyrnong Street for a site walk across Shepherd Bridge and onto the veloway. Attendees will walk approximately 500 metres, reaching a point directly above Footscray Road, before returning to the bus. The tour will conclude with a return to the Information Centre.
A booking fee waiver for this program is made possible thanks to Transurban.
