Welcome to Melbourne Quarter

Welcome to The Weekend at Melbourne Quarter.

Positioned between the CBD and Docklands, Melbourne Quarter is one of Melbourne’s newest and most ambitious mixed-use precincts. Built above active rail lines and connecting Collins and Flinders Streets, it brings together workplaces, homes, laneways, parks and public art into a truly vertical neighbourhood. (All programs featured in this itinerary are listed at the bottom of this page.)

Start your weekend on Friday with the Grand Opening Tour of Melbourne Quarter. Join project architects and team members as they guide you through the precinct’s evolution—from large-scale infrastructure project to a lived-in part of the city. You’ll explore laneways, public spaces and the elevated Sky Park, while hearing about design intent, sustainability and the challenges of building over rail.

Get to know Melbourne Quarter

After your tour, take time to wander the precinct at your own pace. Begin at Melbourne Quarter Square, the central ground-level plaza surrounded by food and drink, before making your way up to the elevated Sky Park. Suspended above Collins Street, this 2,000-square-metre green space offers lawns, seating and expansive city views, a defining feature of the precinct and a new kind of urban park for Melbourne.

Follow the network of laneways that stitch the precinct together. Connections between Collins and Flinders Streets reveal a sequence of smaller green spaces, garden pockets and moments of pause, all designed to prioritise pedestrians and everyday use.

Along the way, discover Melbourne Quarter’s extensive public art program. Look out for the playful Grass Parrot Family in Ti-Tree Park, the immersive Colourama pavilion with its shifting light and colour (best viewed at night), and Indigenous land use and agriculture. These works, alongside others across the precinct, reflect a strong commitment to storytelling and First Nations collaboration.

Also in Ti-Tree Park, look for the sculptural cricket stumps that reference early Melbourne history and light projections animate the space after dark. In nearby building foyers and facades, large-scale works such as the typographical letter installation Your Lordship has been Fortunate and window installation Landscape Amnesia add further layers to the precinct’s identity.

When it’s time to refuel, Melbourne Quarter offers a wide range of dining options. Head to Quarter Hall for a mix of casual eateries, or settle in at Quarterhouse, a multi-level pub with a rooftop overlooking Sky Park. Laneways such as Yam Daisy Lane and Gunpowder Lane are lined with cafés and restaurants, making it easy to pause and take in the atmosphere.

On Saturday, join the Public Art Tour of Melbourne Quarter with Broached Commissions. This guided experience offers deeper insight into the precinct’s artworks—many of them special commission connecting installations across the site while unpacking their meaning, materiality and relationship to place.

Beyond the tours, Melbourne Quarter is designed to be explored through everyday movement. Walk or cycle through the precinct as part of the wider city network, with direct connections to Southern Cross Station, the Capital City Trail and surrounding Docklands waterfront routes.

Take time to experience the quieter corners too. TiTree Park offers a neighbourhood-scale green retreat within the residential area, while the elevated and ground-level spaces together demonstrate how landscape can be integrated into dense urban environments.

Melbourne Quarter is more than a development, it’s a working part of the city shaped by movement, landscape, culture and everyday life. Spend time exploring, and you’ll discover how this new precinct gives back to Melbourne through generous public space, connection and design.
