Australia 108
Architect: Fender Katsalidis 2020
City of Melbourne | R03
Building Description
Designed by Fender Katsalidis for World Class Global, Australia 108 is a highly sculptural residential tower which will be unlike any other in Australia. Its slender form will be highlighted by a golden starburst expression which then morphs into a curvaceous profile against the sky. The Starburst, inspired by the Commonwealth Star on the Australian flag, is a celebration of the sense of community within the building.
Located on Melbourne’s Southbank, Australia 108 will become the ‘tallest building to roof’ in the Southern Hemisphere, at 319 metres. The building will contain 1,100 apartments over 100 floors, and 4015m² of resident facilities including dining and function spaces, theatrettes, gymnasiums, pools, spas and an outdoor terrace.
The ground-floor podium has been built around a Italianate style heritage façade, which in 1899 housed a timber mill and warehouse. It will house three retail tenancies in addition to two residential lobbies.
