Building Description

Fitzroy’s Pittard Electroplating building was originally home to engineer and brassfounder Harry Pittard in 1924. This simple, brick Moderne building now houses the notoriously playful interior architects, Flack Studio, and their workshop of eclectic materials.

The corner cream brick factory is well preserved, with slot type steel framed windows setting an industrial tone on the street. Inside, the 120 square metre studio presents a riotous contrast with the building’s exterior, where the workspace is defined by signature Flack stimuli.

Known for its irreverence, for pops of colour, texture and luxe details, Flack Studio has been described as “equal parts Gio Ponti and Vincent Van Duysen with a Dash of Dame Edna,” or, as they call it, “slightly bonkers nostalgic modernism.” True to the brand, founder David Flack has captured this in the studio’s fitout. There’s a Persian Travertine wall, a green marble powder room, and a “pleasure wall” of ever-evolving samples, swatches and inspirational publications. David Flack, Founder & Director of Flack Studio was recently awarded Designer of the Year at the 2019 Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards.

Interior architect led tours and talks. Flack Studio will also be hosting a combined show by artists Mark Whalen, Huseyin Sami and Mason Kimber all represented by Sophie Gannon Gallery with an exhibition of Ben Sexton’s work at Daine Singer Gallery at the rear of the building
