Brighton Cemetery: Generous in Thinking and Generous in Doing
+ Add to ItineraryDescription
Come and hear about seven inspirational women from the mid-1800s to the 1950s whose innovations still impact Australia today—women who set up infant milk services, baby health care centres and helped mothers in need; who discovered varieties of polio which led to the Salk vaccine and created the most effective rabbit eradication system which is still used by farmers Australia-wide. They were feisty, fighting and influencing within local councils to start the first Meals on Wheels in the Caulfield area and rise to be a Mayoress.
Then there were the quiet achievers such as the sisters who in 1954, set up a philanthropic trust which has helped 3000 organisations and still provides support today—and who can forget the Matron of Nurses taking stranded wounded soldiers back home to SA and NSW after arriving on hospital ships berthed in Melbourne?
