Description

Gate 8 is a purpose-driven commercial development that reimagines the workplace as a platform for social impact, innovation and connection.

Designed for entrepreneurs, social enterprises and values-led organisations, it integrates public amenities, civic generosity and architectural excellence to deliver a commercially successful, community-anchored workplace in Jolimont.

More than a traditional office building, Gate 8 is conceived as an active civic participant at the threshold between Yarra Park and the city, engaging with Melbourne’s cultural life and the movement of people through the surrounding precinct. Its architecture blurs the boundaries between public and private, with human-centred design shaping spaces that feel open, welcoming and connected rather than corporate or insular.

The red brick façade is scaled and articulated to respond to its context, grounding the building within the urban fabric while expressing permanence and purpose. At ground level, social impact is embedded into everyday experience through public-facing spaces including a café, generous communal areas, flexible event spaces and a mezzanine auditorium. Together, these elements demonstrate how the next generation of workplaces can operate not only as places of business, but as meaningful contributors to the civic life of the city.

What's On

Join us to transform the ground floor auditorium into an open forum! Inspired by the Speakers' Corner in London's Hyde Park, Jonothan Cowle, principal of national design at Rothelowman, will host an informal public debate through targeted questions. We invite audience members to come forward to informally debate and discuss ideas, encouraging open dialogue, exchange and collective thinking in a lively, inclusive setting.
