Building Description

The Brunswick Town Hall is visibly the grandest building in Sydney Road’s approach to Melbourne. The complex is historically and socially important to Brunswick as an expression of the social and civic aspirations of the city since the 1870s, not to mention Dennis Denuto’s representation of Darryl Kerrigan and ‘the vibe’ back in 1997’s famous first court scene in The Castle, which was filmed in the Council Chambers. From Town Hall to library and everything in between, the Town Hall building has provided an important political and social space for its community. A French Renaissance revival design of Evander McIvor and Sydney H Wilson. It features moderne additions and showcases changing fashions and aspirations of the community it has served from 1876.
