Hecker Guthrie

Architect: Athol Whimp, 2006

East | E01

Building Description

Hecker Guthrie have established a leading reputation in interior design across a variety of projects – from residential to retail, hospitality, multi-residential, hotel and commercial. In a creative hub in the suburb of Cremorne, the Hecker Guthrie studio is a chance to see what makes a designer’s workplace inspiring and engaging.
Essentially an extruded concrete shell, the overall architectural form of the building that houses the studio feels like a gallery. The interiors have a level of honesty in materiality: walls and floor are unfinished concrete, with minimal architectural lighting and services. A central glazed atrium, that draws in natural daylight to all levels, is the nucleus around the hives of activity. Each end of the building is clad with floor-to-ceiling frameless glass windows, doors and opaque balconies, allowing for a sense of connection and transparency.
Surrounded by other designers, architects, fashion creatives and distributors, the Hecker Guthrie studio is spare and light-filled, with interior samples, furniture and design inspiration that inform the studio’s work.
