Description

Step inside the warehouse that’s feeding Victoria. Discover Foodbank’s brand new purpose-built facility, designed to distribute more than 14 million kilos of food to communities across the state every year. That’s the equivalent of 550 Melbourne trams packed bumper-to-bumper full of food.

Established in 1930 as a response to the Great Depression, Foodbank is the oldest and largest food relief organisation in Victoria, supporting people in times of disaster or financial hardship. We’re about responding to the needs of the community and ensuring everyone has access to quality, nutritious food.

Our Altona headquarters is where that impact begins. Opened in November 2025, the 10,000-square-metre warehouse has a cold-chain facility and space for 8,000 pallets of food and groceries. It allows Foodbank to supply fresh produce, pantry staples, personal hygiene items, and everyday household products to almost 500 charity partners, and provide free breakfasts to students in more than 1380 schools, as well as run community markets and stock our Community Food Centres in Ballarat and Morwell.

What's On

Join Foodbank staff and volunteers for a guided tour through our newly opened warehouse and hop on board Dorothy or Dave, our 18-metre bendy supermarket buses that offer a mini supermarket experience on wheels.

Learn about Foodbank’s rich history and discover what it takes to feed 76,000 Victorians every single day. Whether you’re curious about supply chains, food sustainability or social impact, a visit to Foodbank provides a look at food relief in action. At the end of the tour, visitors can actively participate in food relief, by helping us pack an emergency hamper—making a real difference to a family who needs support.

Children's Activities

The family-friendly tour includes a warehouse detective activity and a creative exercise for kids.
