Description

Footscray Community Arts (FCA) is an arts and cultural precinct on the banks of the Maribyrnong River in Melbourne’s west. Established by trade unionists in the 1970s, FCA has spent more than 50 years as a cultural anchor for Footscray, championing marginalised communities, emerging artists, community-led practice and First Nations leadership.

Outdoors, the newly opened Lango Stage extends the tour into the future of both Footscray and FCA. This architecturally-designed contemporary performance space sits within re-Indigenised greenspace. Along the route, visitors encounter information about native flora and the symbolic markings on the stage canopy. Together, the Warehouse, Henderson House, Lango and the riverside lawns form a living cultural landscape, honouring Footscray’s past while actively shaping its creative future.

What's On

Come explore Footscray Community Art’s evolving precinct through an open house, exhibition and self-guided tour.

Starting in the warehouse, visitors will experience FCA’s ongoing commitment to contemporary practice and local voices in SURFACED, our collections exhibition. The tour then moves through the heritage-listed bluestone Henderson House, where visitors can learn about the site’s industrial past as Henderson’s Piggery. Now home to the Entrance Gallery and Basement Theatre, the building reflects the transformation of the precinct into a vibrant community arts hub, with printed materials available throughout the space.

Outdoors, visitors will receive exclusive early access to the soon-to-open Lango Stage, extending the tour into the future of both Footscray and FCA. Visitors will experience pre-public access to this architecturally designed contemporary performance space, which sits within re-Indigenised greenspace. Along the route, visitors can explore information about native flora and the symbolic markings featured across the greenspace. Together, the Warehouse, Henderson House, Lango and the riverside lawns form a living cultural landscape, honouring Footscray’s past while actively shaping its creative future.
