Description

Enjoy a historical walking tour on Footscray's four city theatres. On this 60-minute tour you will visit the site of the Trocadero (now Five Walls Gallery) where pictures of all the old theatres in their prime will be on display. You will then peek inside La Scala, which is currently being converted into a live music venue; take in the exterior of The Grand Theatre; and see inside The Barkly, now converted into Theatre Apartments.

Join us for a walking tour exploring the rich history of Footscray’s heritage theatres. Discover the former sites of the La Scala, Trocadero, Grand, and Barkly Theatres as we delve into their unique architectural styles, programming, and how they adapted—or disappeared—with the rise of television. Presenters will include a member of the City of Maribyrnong's City Experience team along with members of the Footscray Historical Society and a former Hoyts projectionist who worked at three of the four theatres.
