Description

Completed in 2026 after more than a decade of planning and construction, Melbourne Quarter is one of Melbourne’s largest contemporary mixed-use precincts. Located at the meeting point of the CBD and Docklands, the precinct is built above and around major rail corridors, connecting the historic Hoddle Grid with Docklands through a network of streets, laneways and public spaces.

The precinct brings together commercial workplaces, residential towers, retail, hospitality and public infrastructure, and was designed as a vertical neighbourhood rather than a stand-alone development. A defining feature is the elevated Sky Park, which spans above Wurundjeri Way to create a publicly accessible green space with city views, walking paths and areas for rest and gathering. It demonstrates an ambitious approach to landscape infrastructure in a dense urban context.

Melbourne Quarter has been designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability, wellbeing and long-term adaptability, with high-performance buildings and integrated transport connections.

Now fully realised, Melbourne Quarter can be experienced as a lived-in part of Melbourne, shaped by movement, landscape, culture and everyday use, rather than as a construction project.

What's On

As part of Open House Melbourne 2026, Melbourne Quarter will host a program of guided tours and talks exploring the precinct’s evolution from large-scale development to a working part of the city.

Visitors can join expert-led walks through the public realm, laneways and elevated Sky Park, built above active rail infrastructure.

Project architects and development team members will discuss design intent, sustainability outcomes, building over rail and the role of mixed-use precincts in contemporary Melbourne.

The program also highlights everyday use of the precinct and how Melbourne Quarter functions today as a connected part of the city.
