Snøhetta
+ Add to ItineraryDescription
Located on cobblestoned Niagara Lane in the heart of Naarm (Melbourne), Snøhetta’s studio occupies a restored 1887 warehouse designed by George De Lacy Evans—a rare surviving example of the buildings that once defined the city’s mercantile centre.
Today, the three-storey space brings together architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, art and design under one roof, reflecting Snøhetta’s transdisciplinary approach to shaping places and experiences.
As the hub for Snøhetta’s Australasian practice, the Melbourne studio connects local projects with a global network. Current work spans major cultural and city-shaping commissions including Harbourside in Sydney, the Glasshouse Theatre for Queensland Performing Arts Centre and the adaptive reuse of the heritage Tea House in Melbourne.
What's On
Come behind the scenes into a working design studio. Set within one of the CBD’s most characterful laneways—surrounded by galleries, cafés and cultural landmarks—the space offers a glimpse into how ideas move from conversation to model to built form.
Snøhetta’s studio will operate as an open workspace, inviting visitors to drop in and explore at their own pace. Project models, drawings and material palettes will be displayed throughout the three levels, offering a behind-the-scenes look at major cultural and city-shaping projects across Australasia.
Members of the architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and art teams will be present for informal conversations about the work and the studio’s transdisciplinary approach.
At selected times, a short welcome will introduce Snøhetta’s practice and current projects. The program offers a rare opportunity to experience the daily life of an international design studio in the heart of Melbourne.
Children's Activities
There will be an interactive model-making workshop for children on throughout both the days.
